Lowdham Festivals Programme of Events
Winter/Spring 2012

Happy New Year!
We are delighted to bring you news of our events programme for the first part of 2012 – and news about our future plans too...

Friday 3rd February 2 - 3.30pm

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
Dickens In An Hour with Mike Wilson

Celebrate the 200th birthday of Britain's greatest novelist with this whistlestop tour through the work of Charles Dickens - and in the summer we will dedicate a whole day to this great author so that we can do him a little more justice!

Friday 2nd March 2 - 3.30pm

Their Names Will Live On with Andy Smart

In a newspaper career spanning more than 40 years Andy Smart has interviewed countless war veterans, from an old soldier who survived the trenches of World War One to a casualty of Afghanistan. Without exception, the stories were awe-inspiring and humbling. These are the words of ordinary individuals called upon to carry out extraordinary acts of bravery and commitment. An illustrated talk.
Andy Smart attended Southwell Minster School before becoming a journalist.

He has been at the Nottingham Post since 1991, where he currently edits the Bygones pages and supplements.

Lowdham Festivals Winter Weekend:
Friday March 2nd – Sunday March 4th

A weekend dedicated to all things local - books, films, art and music.
Full programme details to follow very soon.

PLEASE NOTE - this replaces Flicks in the Sticks this year.
We are currently applying for some funding to buy film equipment for
Lowdham Village Hall so that we can show films more regularly,
so no Flicks this year but it will return!

Lowdham Book Festival:

Saturday 23rd June – Saturday 30th June

Our annual Reading Group Day will take place during the festival as usual and we are planning to start the festival with some food related events in partnership with Gonalston Farm Shop and Nottinghamshire Flavours. We are also planning a Titanic Day, and a Dickens Day as part of the celebrations to mark the bicentenary of his birth - and of course there will be the usual buzzing day of free talks, lots of bookstalls and local literary group events on Saturday 30th June.

And much, much more...!
